Reps File Grievances For Detectives Assigned to Foot Posts
FOP Reps have filed two grievances on the behalf of new detective class whose graduation was postponed so they could be compelled to work in-uniform on a Michigan Avenue detail.
Field Reps Michael Garza and Rich Aguilar filed the grievances on behalf of detective class 18-10-01, whose members were forced to work Michigan Avenue on 30 June 2018.
The detectives were sworn in on and given their units of assignment on 27 June 2018, but the department detailed them to foot posts in uniform on Michigan Avenue instead of going to the areas.
One grievance, fled by field rep Mike Garza, claims the detectives were improperly detailed. It seeks time-and-a-half pay for all period in which they were improperly detailed.
Another grievance, filed by Rich Aguilar, claims the day off group for the detectives was changed in violation of the contract. It claims time-and-a-half for all hours worked on 30 June 2018.
Both reps believe the grievances are important to stymie further attempts by the department to fill positions in a manner that violates the contract.
“These are good grievances,”Aguilar said, “and I’m confident we will win them for the detectives. Best of luck to class 18-10-01.”
